THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (C5001 KIRKSTONE ROAD, AMBLESIDE) (THE STRUGGLE HILL CLIMB) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES) ORDER 2022
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that to facilitate the holding of The Struggle Hill Climb ("the Event") near Ambleside, the County Council of Cumbria has made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the 1984 Act), with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport under Section 16(B)(6) of the 1984 Act, the effect of which is to prohibit any motor vehicle from proceeding along that section of the C5001 Kirkstone Road, Ambleside from its junction with the A591, in Ambleside, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 4.3km.
A way for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained at all times. A suitable alternative route for motor vehicles will be signed and available as follows:
Southwest Bound motor vehicles: via the A592 to Cooks House Corner, A591 towards Ambleside, along Lake Road, Wansfell Road, Rothay Road, Compston Road, A591 Rydal Road and the unrestricted section of the C5001.
Northeast Bound motor vehicles: via the unrestricted section of the C5001, A591 Lake Road and A592 from Cook House Corner to the Kirkstone Pass Inn. Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:
1. Apply to emergency service motor vehicles, or motor vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and
2. Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and
3. Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and
4. Apply to motor vehicles being used in connection with the Event.

The Order will come into operation on 25 September 2022 and may continue in force for a maximum period of up to three days from that date as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed, however it will only be required for the duration of the Event which is likely to be between 0930 hours and 1300 hours on Sunday 25 September 2022.
