ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14 THE A590 TRUNK ROAD (ULVERSTON)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2021
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 09346363)
that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 09346363)
intends to make Order on the A590 Trunk Road, in the District of South Lakeland, in the County of
Cumbria, to enable the replacement of road markings and road studs, vegetation clearance, and
other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.
The Order will:
(a) impose speed limits on the following sections of the A590 Trunk Road:
i) a 10 mph speed limit at various short locations as signed, on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from a point 30 metres west of the eastbound entry slip road of Booths Roundabout, to a point 540 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Newby Bridge Roundabout;
ii) a 40 mph speed limit on the westbound carriageway, from a point 750 metres east of the westbound entry slip road of Booths Roundabout, to a point 150 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Newby Bridge Roundabout;
The 10 mph speed limit will apply for safety reasons through the works area where traffic will be escorted by a highways maintenance vehicle.

(b) ban all traffic from the following sections of the A590 Trunk Road:
i) the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from the eastbound exit slip road of Meathop Roundabout, to a point 400 metres east of the eastern junction with the A5074;
ii) the westbound carriageway, from the westbound exit slip road of Meathop Roundabout, to a point 280 metres west of Moss End Farm Accommodation Access (access to the A590 westbound from the B5271 is closed);
iii) the westbound carriageway, from the westbound exit slip road of Brettargh Holt Roundabout, to the junction with the Levens Lane slip road.

(c) ban all traffic from the following sections of the A590 Trunk Road:
i) the eastbound carriageway, from a point 1,400 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Newby Bridge Roundabout, to a point 540 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Newby Bridge Roundabout, eastbound traffic will be directed to cross into the westbound carriageway where a contraflow system will be in place;
ii) the westbound carriageway, from a point 540 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Newby Bridge Roundabout, to a point 1,400 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Newby Bridge Roundabout, westbound traffic will be directed to cross into the eastbound carriageway where a contraflow system will be in place;
iii) the eastbound carriageway, from a point 560 metres east of the A590 and Lanes End/ B5278 Junction, to a point 1,310 metres east of the A590 and Lanes End/B5278 Junction, eastbound traffic will be directed to cross into the westbound carriageway where a contraflow system will be in place;
iv) the westbound carriageway, from a point 1,310 metres east of the A590 and Lanes End/ B5278 Junction, to a point 560 metres east of the A590 Lanes End/B5278 Junction, westbound traffic will be directed to cross into the eastbound carriageway where a contraflow system will be in place.

(d) ban all traffic from the following in the central reservation of the A590 Trunk Road:
i) turning right through the gap the on the westbound carriageway, situated 520 metres west of Backbarrow New Bridge;
ii) turning right through the gap on the eastbound carriageway, situated 560 metres west of Backbarrow New Bridge;
iii) turning through the gaps on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, situated 300 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Meathop Roundabout;
iv) turning through the gaps on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, situated 310 metres east of Moss End Farm Accommation Access Bridge;
v) turning right through the gap on the eastbound carriageway, situated 450 metres east of Moss End Farm Accommation Access Bridge;
vi) turning through the gaps on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, situated 600 metres east of Moss End Farm Accommodation Access Bridge;
vii) turning right through the gap on the westbound carriageway, situated at the C5046 Junction;
viii) Turning right through the gap on the eastbound carriageway, situated 200 metres west of the western A5074 Junction;
ix) Turning right through the gap on the westbound carriageway, situated at the western A5074 Junction;
x) Turning through the gaps on the eastbound and westbound carriageways, situated at Force Lane.

(e) ban all traffic from the following adjacent to the A590 eastbound and westbound carriageways:
i) the westbound layby, at a point 310 metres west of Backbarrow New Bridge;
ii) the eastbound layby, at a point 1,100 metres east of the eastbound exit slip road of Meathop Roundabout;
iii) the westbound layby, at a point 80 metres west of Mill Side Junction;
iv) the eastbound layby, at a point 30 metres east of Mill Side Junction;
v) the westbound layby, at a point 950 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Meathop Roundabout;
vi) the westbound layby, at a point 520 metres west of Force Lane Junction.

(f) ban all traffic from entering or leaving the A590 Trunk Road from:
i) the Levis Garth;
ii) the Stonecroft;
iii) the Town End Junction;
iv) the unclassified road, located 80 metres west of Town End Junction;
v) the unclassified road (both side roads), located 750 metres west of Mill Side Junction;
vi) the unclassified road, located 45 metres west of Mill Side Junction;
vii) the Mill Side Junction;
viii) the nature reserve access, located 610 metres east of Mill Side Junction;
ix) the C5046 Junction;
x) the side road opposite the C5046 Junction;
xi) the unclassified road, located 200 metres west of the western A5074 Junction;
xii) the western B5271 Junction, located 310 metres east of Moss End Farm Accommodation Access Bridge;
xiii) the eastern B5271 Junction, located 450 metres east of Moss End Farm Accommodation Access Bridge;
xiv) the western A5074 Junction;
xv) the eastern A5074 Junction;
xvi) the unclassified road, located 270 metres west of the westbound exit slip road of Brettargh Holt Roundabout;
xvii) the Force Lane Junction.
Diversion routes for the A590 Trunk Road and local road will be well signed.
The restrictions and prohibitions are expected to take place overnight between 20:00 and 07:00 during a period starting on Monday 4 October 2021 and ending on Tuesday 30 November 2021. However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights until completed.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces vehicles and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services or works vehicles. The restrictions and prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs.
