APPLICATION FOR CONSENT TO CARRY OUT WORKS ON COMMON LAND COMMONS ACT 2006: SECTION 38

Notice ID: BRA1694051

Notice effective from
16th April 2020 to 16th May 2020

APPLICATION FOR CONSENT TO CARRY OUT WORKS ON COMMON LAND COMMONS ACT 2006: SECTION 38
Public Consultation - Fencing and tree planting at Dunnerdale, Seathwaite and Torver Common. The Dunnderdale, Seathwaite and Torver Commoners Association propose to erect fences on the common land as part of a Natural England ‘Countryside Stewardship’ Agri-environment Scheme. These fences aim to allow management and reduction of grazing pressure from livestock on the sensitive upland habitats and promote the regeneration of biodiverse plant (shrubs and trees) communities to support a wide range of insects, birds and mammals. The commoners have been working closely with Natural England and Cumbria Wildlife Trust to develop a proposal which is in keeping with the World Heritage status of the area and to minimise any visual or access impacts. An application for permission to work on the common land is due to be lodged with the Secretary of State Planning Inspectorate and we welcome comments from interested stakeholders on the proposals. Information on the scheme, including maps of the works are held on the Cumbria Wildlife Trust website (www.cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk/DSTC-consultation) and any comments should be sent either by post to Dr Mike Sturt, Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Plumgarths, Crook Road, Kendal LA8 8LX or by email to mikes@cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk by the 15th May 2020.
