THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (U4059 AND U5032 HARDKNOTT PASS AND WRYNOSE PASS) (COAST TO COAST CYCLE SPORTIVE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES) ORDER 2018

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of the Coast to Coast Cycle Sportive organised by Open Cycling ("the Event") along Hardknott Pass and Wrynose Pass, the County Council of Cumbria has made an Order with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport under Section 16(B)(6) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to prohibit any motor vehicle from proceeding along the following lengths of road;

1. U4059 Hardknott Pass, from a point approx.5.2km east of its [unction with the C4026, extending in a north easterly direction approx.4.5km; and



2. U5032 Wrynose Pass, from its junction with the U4059 to its (unction with the U5527, a distance of approx.5.2km.



A way for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained at all times. A suitable alternative route for motor vehicles will be signed and available via the unrestricted section of the U4059, C4026, C4028 (through Ulpha), C5007 (Broughton Mills) and the A593 (Broughton-in-Furness and Coniston). Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:

(i) Apply to emergency service motor vehicles, or motor vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and



(ii) Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and



(iii) Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on r adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and



(iv) Apply to motor vehicles being used in connection with the Event

The Order will come into operation on 23 June 2018 and may continue in force for a period of up to three days from that date as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed, although it is anticipated that it will only be required for I day on Saturday 23 June 2018 and only between 0500 hours and 0900 hours.
