CUMBRIA COUNTY COUNCIL THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE DISTRICT OF SOUTH LAKELAND) (CONSOLIDATION AND PROVISION OF SPEED LIMITS) ORDER 2018


1. The Cumbria County Council hereby give notice that on 15 May 2018 it made the above Order under Section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.


2. The Order will come into operation on 28 May 2018 and its effect will be to: -


(a) Consolidate the provisions of the following orders into one concise order: -


The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, District of South Lakeland) (Consolidation and Provision of Speed Limits) Order 2007;

(b) Extend the 30 mph speed limit on the A5284 Windermere Road, Kendal, in a northerly direction, so that it will commence at point 291 northwest of the centre of its junction with Garth Brow and extend north westerly for a distance of 300m, also removing the existing 40 mph speed limit from a point 386m north west of the centre of its junction with Garth Brow in a north westerly direction for a distance of 135m.


(c) Extend the 40 mph speed limit on the A59I north of Grasmere, so that it will commence from a point 268m north of the centre of its junction with Swan Lane (B5287)) to a point 88m north of the centre of its junction with the lane leading to Low Mill Bridge.


(d) Replace the existing 40 mph speed limit on the A6 Shap Road, Kendal, with a 30 mph speed limit, and introduce a further 40 mph speed restriction in a northerly direction for a further 232m, so that the overall length of the 30 mph will commence from a point 57m north of the centre of its junction with Githwaiterigg Lane and extend to a point 56m south of the centre of the lane leading to Summerhow.


3. Full details of the Order, together with a statement of the Council's reasons for making the Order and a copy of the Orders to be consolidated and revoked, may be inspected at the offices of Cumbria Highways, County Offices, Kendal and the offices of the undersigned during normal working hours.


4. If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or any instrument made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may within six weeks of 15 May 2018 apply to the High Court for this purpose.
