THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (VARIOUS ROADS, CARTMEL) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC  REGULATION) ORDER 20I8 AND THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (FOOTPATH NOS 549020,549021 AND 549022 IN THE PARISH OF LOWER ALLITHWAITE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2018
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Cartmel Steeplechases (Holker) Ltd to stage Cartmel race meetings and concerts in a safe manner, the County Council of Cumbria intends to make an Order the effect of which is to:
1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a generally south westerly direction along that section of the C5053 Cartmel Lane, Old Town Hill, The Level and the C5029 Green Lane, Cartmel from the junction with the westbound slip road of the A590 trunk road to the junction with the C5041 at Longbnds Farm.

Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a generally south westerly direction along that section of the C5053 Cartmel Lane, Old Town Hill, The Level and the C5029 Green Lane, Cartmel from the junction with the westbound slip road of the A590 trunk road to the junction with the C5041 at Longbnds Farm.
A suitable alternative route for northeast bound vehicles will be available as follows:-
From the junction with the C504I and the C5029 Green Lane at Longrands Farm, proceed in a northerly direction along the C504I for approx. 3 miles to its junction with the A590 Trunk Road, near Staveley-in-Cartmel. Turn right onto the A590 and continue for approx2.5 miles to the eastern junction of the A590 High and Low Newton Bypass with the C5109 (old A590).
N.B. The one way restriction detailed in I above wil only be in force until the midpoint of a particular race meet at which point the one­way restriction will be reversed so that no vehicle will proceed other than In a generally north easterly direction along the same section as detailed above and the alternative route for southwest bound vehicles will also be the reverse of that detaied above.
2. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a westerly direction along that section of the US 180 Crag Lane, near Cartmel from its junction with the C5041 to its junction with the U5179, Aynsome Lane

3. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a north westerly direction along that section of the U5179, Aynsome Lane, near Cartmel from its junction with the U5180 Crag Lane to its junction with the U5178 Green bank Lane.

4. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a southerly direction along that section of the U5178 Greenbank Lane, near Cartmel from its junction with the U5179 Aynsome Lane to its junction with the C5040 at Cartmel Racecourse.

A suitable alternative route is as fbllows:-
From the western end of the U5178 Greenbank Lane proceed si a northerly direction along the C5040 for approx. 125 miles to the junction with the C5053. Turn rjght onto the C5053 and continue in an easterly direction onto the US 183 near Broughton Grange and to the junction with the C5041 approx. I mile Turn right onto the C5041 and travel in a southerly direction to its junction with the U5180 Crag Lane and the opposite end of the restrictioa N.B. The one way restrictions detailed in 2 to 4 above will only be in force until the midpoint of the particular race meet at which point the one-way restrictions will be reversed so that no vehicle will proceed other than in an easterly direction along the U5180 Crag Lane, and other than in a south easterly direction along the U5179 Aynsome Lane and other than in a northerly direction along the U5178 Greenbank Lane, the extent of which are detailed above and the alternative route for vehicles will also be the reverse of that detailed above.

The mid point of a race meeting is approximately 1530 hours for the daytime meetings and 1900 hours for evening meetings. The concert to be held on 29th June 2018 is included as part of the race meeting taking place on that day and the reversal of the one-way restrictions will apply as described above.
5. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a north easterly direction along that section of the U5175 Cavendish Street, Cartmel from its junction with the C5040 at The Square its junction with the U5175 Priest Lane.

6. Prohibit any vehide from proceeding other than in an easterly direction along that section of the U5175 Priest Lane, Cartmel from its junction with the U5175 Cavendish Street to its junction with the C5041.

A suitable alternative route is as follows:-
From the eastern end of Priest Lane proceed in a northerly direction along the C504I for approx.1.5 miles to the junction with the U5I83. Turn left onto the U5I83 and then onto the C50S3, near Broughton Grange. Continue along the C5053 to the junction with the C5040. Turn left onto the C5040 and travel in a southerly direction into Cartmel and the junction with the U5175 Cavendish Street and the opposite end of the restriction.
7. Prohibit any vehide from proceeding along the following lengths of road: -

(a) U5175 Bam Garth, Cartmel from its junction with the U5175 Priest Lane to its junction with C5042 The Causeway,

(b) U5868 Orchard Close, Cartmel from its junction with the C504I extending for its entire length.

(c)C5(M2 The Causeway, Cartmdfh^ Public House to its junction with the C5040 St Mary's Lodge

(d) U5175 Town End Meadow, Cartmel from its junction with the C5042 Haggs Lane for its entire length.
Permit holders are exempt from the restrictions detailed in item 7(a) to (d) above and service buses are exempt from the restrictions detaied h item 7 (c) above There is no suitable alternative route available (except for permit holders following the diversion for Priest Lane Cavendish Street and using the C5O40 between The Square and Headless Cross).
8. Prohibit any vehide from proceeding along that section of The Square to Headless Cross, Cartmel from its junction with the U5176 at The Square to its junction with the C5041 at Headless Cross.

There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles. Access only will be permitted for buses, horseboxes, local service buses and permit holders.
9. Prohibit any vehicle travelling in a south easterly direction along the U5172 from making a left turn onto the C5041.

N.B. During each race meet the parking places referred to in Schedules I to 4 inclusive of The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, Cartmel) (Traffic Regulation) Order 2017 on the following roads will be temporarily suspended;
C504I Aynsome Road, U5I75 Bam Garth, u5l75 Cavendish Street, C5040 Devonshire Street, U5I77 Ford Road, C5040 Market Square, C5040 Park View, US 175 Priest Lane, C5042 The Causeway, C5040 Devonshire Square.
10. Prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the following lengths of Footpath:-

Prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the following lengths of Footpath:-
(a) Footpath No.549020 in the Parish of Lower Allitfiwaite, from its junction with the C5040 The Square extending in a north westerly direction to its junction with Footpath No.549021.

(b) Footpath No.549021 in the Parish of Lower Allithwaite from its junction with Footpath No.549020 to its junction with the U57I4, A suitable alternative route for pedestrians is as follows:-

Southeast Bounds Pedestrians - From the north western end of Footpath No.549021 proceed along the U5174 in a south westerly direction for 60 metres to its junction with Footpath No.549020. Turn left and proceed in a south easterly direction to the junction with the Footpath No.549021 and the opposite end of the closed lengths of footpath in that area. Northwest Bound Pedestrians - Travel in the reverse direction of the above.
11. Prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along that section of the Footpath No.549022 in the Parish of Lower Allithwaite, from its junction with the C5040 The Square extending in a south westerly direction to its junction with Footpath No. 549019.

Prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along that section of the Footpath No.549022 in the Parish of Lower Allithwaite, from its junction with the C5040 The Square extending in a south westerly direction to its junction with Footpath No. 549019.
A suitable artemative route for pedestrians is available as follows:-
Southwest Bound Pedestrians - From the north eastern end of the closure proceed along the C5040 for a distance of 560 metres to the junction with the C504I. Turn right and proceed for a distance of 500 metres to the junction with Footpath NoJ>490l9. Turn right and proceed along Footpath No.549019 for a distance of 445 metres to the opposite end of the restriction. Northeast Bound Pedestrians - Travel in the reverse direction of the above.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained other than for the Footpath closures detailed in items 10 and 11 above Both Orders will come into operation on 26 May 2018. Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:
(i) Apply to emergency service vehicles, orvehides being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and
(ii)Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises
accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads.

The Temporary Prohibition of Through Traffic Order may continue in force for a period of up to eighteen months and the Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians Order may continue in force for a period of up to six months. However, it is anticipated that it will only be required on the following days and as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed:-
Saturday 26th May 2018, Monday 28th May 2018, Wednesday 30th May 2018, Friday 29th June 2018, Sunday Ist jury 2018, Saturday 21st Jury 2018, Monday 23rd July 2018, Saturday 25th August 2018 and Monday 27th August 2018.
