Asics Windermere Marathon, Temporary Road Closures

THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (B5286 BRATHAY, C5026, B5285 AND U5574 HAWKSHEAD, NEAR AMBLESIDE, A592 NEWBY BRIDGE TO BOWNESS-ON-WINDERMERE AND U5222 NEWBY BRIDGE) (ASICS WINDERMERE MARATHON)
(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2022
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of the ASICS Windermere Marathon ("the Event") and to enable members of the public to watch the Event and to reduce the disruption of traffic likely to be caused by the Event, the County Council of Cumbria has made an Order the effect of which is to:-
(1) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following lengths of road:-

(a) B5286 north of Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from its junction with the A593 at Brathay Farm, Clappersgate, extending in a south-westerly direction to its junction with the B5285 at Hawkshead Hall, a total distance of approx. 6km; and

(b) B5285, Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from its junction with the B5286 at Hawkshead Hall, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approx. 500m; and

(c) C5026 south of Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from its junction with the B5285 extending in a westerly then southerly direction to its junction with the C5022, a total distance of approx.800m; and

(d) C5026 south of Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from its junction with the C5022 at Roger Ground extending in a southerly direction to Graythwaite Hall, a total distance of approx.6.7km; and

Whilst no suitable alternative route for vehicles will be available for closures detailed at (a) to (d) above, it is anticipated that closure (a) will only be required between 1000 hours and 12 noon on Sunday 22 May 2022; closure (b) when safe to do so, the race organisers will operate a single lane convoy system during the closure period 1000 hours to 1130 hours on Sunday 22 May 2022; closure (c) when safe to do so, race organisers will operate a single lane traffic management system from the junction with the B5285 extending to its junction with the C5022 at Roger Ground during the closure period 1030 hours to 1215 hours on Sunday 22 May 2022; closure (d) C5026 will be required between 1030 hours and 1215 hours on Sunday 22 May 2022. Vehicles may, if they wish, take an alternative route via Newby Bridge, Bowness and Ambleside but this will not be signed as a diversion route.
(e) U5574 Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from its junction with the C5026, extending in a north westerly direction for a distance of approx.90m.

A suitable alternative route for vehicles in respect of the closure at item (e) above will be available via the C5026, B5285 and U5574. It is anticipated that the closure detailed at (e) above will only be required between 1030 hours and 1215 hours on Sunday 22 May 2022.
(2) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a southerly direction along that section of the A592 (Newby Bridge, Bowness-on-Windermere), from its junction with the B5284 Long Tail Hill, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approx. 10km to the northern entrance to Fell Foot Park.

A suitable alternative route for north bound vehicles in respect of the one-way restriction at (2) above will be available via the A590, A5074 and B5284 Long Tail Hill. It is anticipated that the one-way restriction will be in place between 1000 hours and 1600 hours on Sunday 22 May 2022.
(3) Prohibit any vehicle from waiting or loading and unloading, at any time, on any day, along the following lengths of road:-

(i)A592 (north west side), from a point 225m southwest of the Beech Hill Hotel, extending in a south westerly direction for approx.100m; and
(ii)A592 Rayrigg Road, Windermere (west side) from a point at the entrance to the Steamboat Museum, extending in a southerly direction for approx.270metres: and
(iii)U5222 Newby Bridge (north side), from its junction with the C5026, extending in a north westerly direction for approx.150m.
The no waiting at any time and no loading/unloading, at any time restrictions detailed in 3(i) to 3 (iii) inclusive, above will only apply from 2100 hours on Saturday 21 May 2022 to 1600 hours on Sunday 22
May 2022
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
(4) Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:

(i) Apply to emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and
(ii)Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and
(iii)Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or to the roads, or to
any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and
(iv)Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Event.

The Order will come into operation on 21 May 2022 and may continue in force for a period of up to 3 days from that date. It is anticipated that it will only be required on Saturday 21 May 2022 and Sunday 22 May 2022, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed and for the hours specified above.
