(B5286 BRATHAY, C5026 HAWKSHEAD, NEAR AMBLESIDE, A592 NEWBY BRIDGE TO BOWNESS-ON-WINDERMERE AND U5222 NEWBY BRIDGE) (ASICS WINDERMERE MARATHON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2021

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of the ASICS Windermere Marathon ("the Event"), the Count/ Council of Cumbria has made an Order the effect of which is to: -
(1) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following lengths of road: -

(a) BS286 north of Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from its junction with the A593 at Brathay Farm, Clappersgate, extending in a south-westerly direction to its junction with the B5285 at Hawkshead Hall, a total distance of approx 6km; and

(b) C5026 south of Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from its junction with the B5285 extending in a westerly then southerly direction to its junction with the C5022, a total distance of approx 800m.

Whilst no suitable alternative route for vehicles will be available for closures detailed in 1(a) and 1(b) above, it is anticipated that closure (a) will only be required between 0730 hours and 1100 hours on Sunday 23 May 2021 and closure (b) will only be required between 0800 hours and 1300 hours on Sunday 23 May 2021 also with closure (b) when safe to do so, race organisers will operate a single lane convoy system in this section during the closure period between 0800 hours and 1300 hours. Vehicles may, if they wish, take an alternative route via Newby Bridge, Bowness and Ambleside but this will not be signed as a diversion route.

(2) One-Way Restrictions

(i) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a southerly direction along that section of the A592 (Newby Bridge, Bowness-on-Windermere), from its junction with the B5284 Long Tail Hill, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approx. 10km to the northern entrance to Fell Foot Park. Public service buses will be permitted to travel in a northbound direction but only whilst a convoy system is in operation.

A suitable alternative route for northbound vehicles in respect of the one-way restriction at (2)(i) above will be available via the A590, A5074 and B5284 Long Tail Hill. It is anticipated that the one-way restriction will be in place between 0800 hours and 1500 hours on Sunday 23 May 2021.

(ii) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a northerly direction along the section of the C5026 south of Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from Graythwaite Hall extending in a northerly direction to its junction with the C5022 at Roger Ground for a total distance of approximately 6.7km.

There no suitable alternative route for south bound vehicles. It is anticipated that the one-way restriction will in place between 0800 and 1300 hours on Sunday 23 May 2021.

(3) Prohibit any vehicle to wait at any time, on any day or to load/unload at any time, on any day (including blue badge holders), along the following lengths of road: -

(i) A592 (north west side), from a point 225m southwest of the Beech Hill Hotel, extending in a south westerly direction for approx 100m; and

(ii) A592 Rayrigg Road, Windermere (west side) from a point at the entrance to the Steamboat Museum, extending in a southerly direction for approx270metres: and

(iii)U5222 Newby Bridge (north side), from its junction with the C5026, extending in a north westerly direction for approx 150m. It is anticipated that the no waiting at any time and no loading/unloading, at any time restrictions detailed in 3 above will be required as follows; -
- Restrictions detailed in 3(i) and 3(ii) inclusive, above will only apply from 2100 hours on Saturday 22 May 2021 to 1600 hours on Sunday 23 May 2021; and
- Restriction detailed at 3(iii) above will only apply from 2100 hours on Saturday 22 May 2021 to 1315 hours on Sunday 23 May 2021.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

(4) Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:

(i) Apply to emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and

(ii) Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and

(iii)Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and

(iv) Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Event.

quoting the reference SL-21-60. The Order will come into operation on 22 May 2021 and may continue in force for a period of up to 3 days from that date. It is anticipated that it will only be required on Saturday 22 May 2021 and Sunday 23 May 2021, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed and for the hours specified above.
