FORMAL NOTICE - RESTRICTED WORKS DUNNERDALE, SEATHWAITE AND TORVER COMMON
Cumbria Wildlife Trust (on behalf of the Dunnerdale, Seathwaite and Torver Commoners Group) has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under Section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Dunnerdale, Seathwaite and Torver Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State. The proposed works are to install 14.1km of stock-proof fencing to create 7 enclosures with a total area of 1220 hectares at Dunnerdale Fell, Raven’s Crag, Bleaberry Haws, Bannishead Mire, Levers Moss, Yewdale Fells and Coniston Moor. Native trees will be planted within these areas at densities of either 325 or 25 trees per hectare and will be planted either unprotected, in plastic tree tubes or in stand-alone metal mesh cages. Trees will not be planted 10m either side of public rights of way, scheduled monuments or within a 10m radius of any water abstraction point. Fences will be 1.2m high and constructed from wooden posts and galvanised steel stock-netting with gates and stiles in appropriate locations. Due to Government advice in respect of Coronavirus (COVID-19), a copy of the application will not be left in a public area for viewing.
