WIGTON'S Innovia Films has appointed a new UK managing director.

Wayne Middleton has taken on the role; he has worked for the company for 26 years.

Innovia was taken over by Canadian company CCL Industries this week in a deal worth 1.14bn Canadian dollars (£695m).

CCL - the world's largest specialty label business - have taken the firm over from former private equity owner Smithfield Group.

Mr Middleton, 48, has held several roles at Innovia, including global leader, new product and market development and market leader, labels.

He will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, the profit and loss for the site and market penetration and growth of new products.

Mr Middleton has a degree in chemistry and attended the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Penrith. He is married with one daughter.

He said: “I am very pleased to be recognised in this way and look forward to taking the business forward with the support of a very talented team and a committed workforce.”

Innovia employs 1,200 people worldwide including more than 600 at Wigton, where it manufactures polypropylene film for use in labelling and packaging, and the Guardian polymer bank note material recently adopted by the Bank of England.
