Two generations of a Windermere-based family business shared their inspirational story at the Lakes Hospitality Trade Show.

Keith McClure and his two sons, Matt and Ben, of McClures catering suppliers, talked about both the history and the future of their business at the flagship event at J36 Rural Auction Centre, Crooklands, near Kendal.

McClures delivery vans are a common sight around Cumbria and a far cry from the original fruit and veg cart company founder Bill McClure used to push when he started out in 1945.

The interview is the latest in a calendar of Insight events run by Sue Coulson , Family Business Ambassador and founder of The Cumbria Family Business Network. She said: “Allowing family businesses to share stories in a safe and friendly environment is at the heart of what we do.

“The interview was conducted by Dave Clarkson, Business Development Director of Armstrong Watson, who we are working in partnership with.

“Dave has recently been a judge for the Cumbria Family Business Awards and has a deep understanding of the stories, heritage and heart behind family-run firms.”

Dave said the event had highlighted the pioneering attitude of the McClure family which had seen the family business grow through innovation.

McClures has also managed to transform and grow while at the same time retaining the “providence” for which many family businesses are renowned.
