THOUSANDS of homes and businesses around Carlisle stand to benefit from a new high-speed internet service.
Solway Communications, based in Thurstonfield, has just signed the lease for another transmitter above Caldbeck.
The company provides wireless broadband at speeds of up to 20Mb/s to addresses in the Carlisle area.
The new transmitter will extend its range to the south and west of the city making it available to a further 10,000 potential customers.
Nicholas Kittoe, managing director of Solway Communications, said: “We planned this transmitter more than two years ago in response to strong local demand.
"We have more than 300 people on our waiting list to be connected. It has not proved easy to secure the right site, but now we know we can get it operating by the Summer.”
