A unique way for freelancers to work together in Kendal is being spearheaded by Wired Cumbria, The Mintworks and South Lakeland District Council.

The Mintworks will see the relaunch of Jelly freelance days on April 28th, designed to open up the space and resources at the Kendal venue to small businesses for free.

The shared space has been developed for freelancers and small businesses to work on their own projects, but also to invite clients to a new area and encourage collaboration.

The Jelly idea was first developed in 2006 by two freelancers based in New York who found that the lack of company was inhibiting to their productivity.

The unique name came from the fact that the two small businessmen were eating Jelly beans at the time they came up with the idea.

SLDC economic development manager, Joanne Golton, said that the aim was to develop new partnerships and encourage the use of The Mintworks’ facilities.

She said: “We are particularly looking to attract freelancers, co-workers or other small businesses who are often home-based, to share the space.

“Importantly, there is superfast Wi-Fi, so to bring your laptop. There is also the opportunity to develop new working relationships or chat and collaborate with other small business owners.”

This event marks the relaunch of the Jelly events that used to take place the The Factory, Kendal, but have now moved to the revamped Kendal venue. .

The most recent Jelly day is the latest in a series of events held by SLDC in collaboration with Wired Cumbria following a networking evening for digital and creative sector South Lakes businesses.

The Jelly event will take place on April 28 at The Mintworks in Kendal. You can find more information here .
