In-Cumbria rounds up the latest movers and shakers in Cumbrian business. 

Burnetts Solicitors has strengthened its corporate team with the appointment of Melissa McManus.

She joins the Carlisle-based law firm from rival Cartmell Shepherd.

Mrs McManus, 28, is a graduate of Durham University who completed her legal practice course at Northumbria University before qualifying as a solicitor in 2013.

It will be all change at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick this year as its two most senior staff call time on their roles.

Executive director Patric Gilchrist and artistic director Ian Forrest, who have led the theatre from the days when it was being built, are both stepping down.

The pair have shared the role of chief executive.

The theatre this week announced the appointment of Conrad Lynch as artistic director and chief executive.

A new executive director is still to be appointed.

A former chief executive of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has been appointed as chairman of Sellafield Ltd.

Tony Fountain, 55, succeeds Tony Price in the role on April 1, when the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) takes over responsibility for day-to-day management of the nuclear site from the Nuclear Management Partners consortium.

He was chief executive of the NDA from 2009 until 2011 and has 30 years of industry experience, having held key roles at BP and more recently at Reliance Industries’ refining and marketing business in India.

First Milk has announced the appointment of Clive Sharpe as chairman. The appointment will be effective from 1st February 2016 and follows approval from First Milk members in December for a leaner and more commercial Board structure.

Sharpe has had a career in food manufacturing spanning 35 years and is a former chairman of Quorn Foods and Burtons Biscuits, former non-executive director of Duerr’s jams and Tangerine Confectionery, and former CEO of WT Foods, Golden Wonder and Homepride Foods. He is currently chairman of Peters Foods.
