A Lake District restaurant has unveiled a major expansion including a new lounge and terrace.

Lamplighter Dining Rooms in Windermere has opened its newly-built terrace and redecorated lounge with an art deco theme.

Co-owners, James and Alistair Tasker have redeveloped the lounge to accommodate 100 extra patrons and the new terrace to allow people to eat and drink outside.

James Tasker said: “It’s been a long-term dream to expand the business and make more of its outside space, so we’re excited to be bringing this project to life after years in the planning.

“It’s a great time to be investing the business, following last year’s positive review by [restaurant critic] Jay Rayner, which was a really positive boost for The Lamplighter’s growing reputation as a foodie destination.”

The lounge area incorporates some of original features that hark back to the building’s original purpose as an late 19th century doctor’s waiting room.

Mr Tasker also spoke about how the new restaurant would support local suppliers as well as bringing people to the area.

He said: “The new lounge bar and terrace will continue to champion local suppliers, but it will offer a completely different style of relaxed dining. “It’s been a labour of love getting the renovations done over the past few months, and we’ve even uncovered a few treasures along the way – including several items of furniture from the late Victorian era.

“All in all, we’re very proud of what we have achieved and believe it will be a real asset for Windermere and the South Lakes as a whole.”
