A LAKE District Hotel that was badly hit by December's floods is staging a music festival to help boost business this winter.

The Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere is hosting The Northumberland Music Festival (NMF) on Tour on January 13 and 14, in conjunction with St Oswald’s Church.

Concerts include the Three English Tenors, along with ‘The Glory of Sacred Music’ and organist Luke Fitzgerald.

The aim, says the Wordsworth’s owner Robert Parker, is to "encourage tourism and business into the village during the winter.”

As the Wordsworth Hotel has only 39 bedrooms and there is capacity for up to 200 concert tickets, it is hoped that other businesses and accommodation providers will benefit.

Tickets include a welcome drink, canapes and a three-course meal at the Wordsworth, while music is performed in the church.

On Friday January 13 the Three English Tenors will perform a night of song and anecdotes from their careers, including operatic classics.

The following day sees highly acclaimed young organist Luke Fitzgerald take a break from his role at Plymouth Cathedral to perform pieces by Bach, Mendelssohn and Brahms, among others.

The Glory of Sacred Music will take the audience on a journey through religious music, featuring iconic pieces from Haydn, Handel and Mozart.
