Rob Johnston says that Cumbrians need to take pictures and use social media as a tool to send out a positive message from the county.

He urged everyone to get behind the message that Cumbria is open.

"The message is Cumbria is open for business and we can all help with that. People need to get out there, take pictures of themselves having fun and enjoying Cumbria.

"Tweet it, record it and get the message out to friends on social media and other media will pick up on it

"Then businesses need to get into their social networks and get message out - it is incumbent on everybody to join in."

He is one voice in a huge movement of Cumbrians that want to show solidarity following the flood.

This is epitomised by the determination of Taste Cumbria organisers who have made the Cockermouth event go ahead this week despite the town being flooded.

To make this possible, the festival, organised by CN Events, has received vital backing from Cumbria’s nuclear family – Sellafield Ltd, Nuclear Management Partners and the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency – and Allerdale council, as well as Cockermouth Town Council and Cockermouth and District Chamber of Trade. And instead of solely focusing on food, it has now been opened up to all flood-hit traders across Cumbria.

An online movement called #spiritofCumbria has garnered thousands of messages of support from the Cumbrian community, and the www.spiritofcumbria.co.uk website has attracted hundreds of messages of support and offers of help.

CN Group is offering a free advertising opportunity to all flooded businesses, which can be taken advantage of by emailing head of business development Sarah White, on sarah.white@cnmedia.co.uk or calling 01228 612248.
