A Carlisle coffee roasting duo have launched a new website and subscription service to coincide with their new look packaging.

Bruce Brown and Luke Jackson describe themselves as “coffee roasters, adventurers and all round troublemakers” and began their life in the coffee trade when they took over the Foxes Cafe in Carlisle back in 2011.

Two years later they started their own business, Bruce & Lukes, sourcing and roasting their own coffee beans, with their third partner, a 1950’s Vittoria roasting machine they have affectionately named “Vicky”.

This month they rebranded the business with new packaging, a new website and blog, and a same day delivery subscription service.

The new website was the result of a collaboration between Luke and local web designer Dan Jesse, and the packaging was the work of recent University of Cumbria graduate Reece Crowder.

Speaking about the new look, Luke said: “We’ve ventured out, visiting various businesses and have had great feedback - it’s very stylish so I’m so chuffed.

“The old packaging and branding didn’t really express the personality of me and Bruce, and didn’t give an idea of the flavour sensations or what the customer was going to receive.

“We’ve added some bean characters to represent each product, and to add a little bit more fun and depth to the brand.”

Customers can now also get their favourite blends delivered straight to their door with same day delivery on online orders made before 1pm.

And Luke wanted to make sure customers weren’t tied into committing to a contract, allowing coffee fans to fit orders around often busy schedule.

He said: “We wanted to make it as easy and as functional for people as possible. We know people have got very busy lives and we wanted something that could fit around that, not entrap people, that’s why there’s no commitment.

“People want something good and fresh, they’re sick of the mass produced supermarket stuff, but love the convenience of it.”

The packaging has also been designed so that it is small enough to fit through a letterbox, which according to Luke was no mean feat.

The pair met while studying outdoor education at college, and still have a passion for adventure, and want to encourage more people to make the most of living in Cumbria.

“We’re hoping to do lots of local offers. When we started out two years ago we had a lot of ideas of grandeur, thinking we were going to be this huge national business, but we’ve taken a step back and want to be really proud of where we’re from.”

“We want to do things like gifts for businesses associated with the outdoors, we want to encourage that sense of adventure and that’s what our hashtag is all about: #GrabLifeByTheBeans”
