Askam under-15s put their disappointment against Roose Pioneers in the semi-finals of the North West Counties Trophy the previous week behind them, as they claimed a 22-14 win against Ashton Bears Blacks on their return to league action last Sunday.

It was Askam's fourth league win of their season and it moved them level on points in the table with their opponents, while they are now a comfortable distance from the two teams below them in Division Two.

They were the only side from the area in the North West Counties youth leagues in action, with the rest all having their matches postponed for one reason or another.

In the Barrow & District Youth League, Roose Pioneers under-14s took up the gauntlet thrown down to them by Hindpool Tigers by defeating bottom side Dalton 68-4 to remain top of the table on points difference. The other match in that age group saw Ulverston comfortably see off Millom 44-14.

At under-12 level, Askam lead the way by two points after an impressive 48-4 victory at Hindpool Tigers.

Second-placed Millom are leading the chase after they breezed past Ulverston 40-0 on their travels, while Barrow Island are behind them in third on points difference following a 32-0 victory at home to Dalton.

Barring any more postponements, it's set to be a busy weekend for our junior clubs, which includes a return to action for the in-form Pioneers under-15s team.

In the Cumbria Youth Cup, Walney Central under-16s are due to welcome Maryport on Sunday, while Ulverston under-14s head to Wath Brow Hornets.
