More than 50 Keswick businesses have stepped up to help reconnect a flood-hit walking route between the town and nearby Threlkeld.

Shops, cafes, attractions, hotels and campsites have all signed up as fundraising campaign partners to help reconnect the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path.

They are armed with donation boxes, posters and flyers all at the main reception desks and check outs to raise awareness and encourage donations from visitors and locals.

More businesses are getting on board daily.

Keswick Tourism Association is also helping to spread the word about the campaign.

Some businesses are planning fundraising events.

Podgy Paws is working with takeaway cafe Cake and Salad to hold the Big Community Quiz at the Back Bar on April 13 at 7pm.

The George and The Packhorse are currently holding their weekly quizzes in aid of the cause.

A benefit gig will be held at Threlkeld Village Hall on April 14 at 8pm, while Lodore Falls Hotel will work with the Lake District Foundation to hold a charity auction on June 8.

Businesses are also providing raffle prizes and cash donations, including Sally's Cottages which has given £300.

Mountaineering company More Than Mountains complteed a 5k challenge on skis in the snow to support the cause.

Two old railway bridges that crossed the River Greta were washed away, another was left at risk of collapse and 200m of the path surface disappeared into the floodwaters in December 2015.

In December 2017 Highways England granted £2.5m and a partnership was established with the Lake District Foundation to jointly fundraise the shortfall of about £3m.

Heather Askew, fundraiser for the foundation, said: "We are thrilled with all the businesses backing the fundraising campaign and want to say a massive thank you in advance for your support. We’ve also launched a fundraising toolkit to make it easier to get involved."
