A village near Carlisle is set to benefit from £130,000 community improvements from a new housing development.

The funding comes after a planning application for 27 new homes was approved for the village, located near Hadrian’s Wall.

Penrith-based homebuilder, Genesis Homes, got permission from Cumberland Council’s Planning Committee to construct the new homes at its Edward’s View development in Burgh by Sands.

As part of the funding, a total of £90,510 will be directed towards education within the parish and a further £40,000 will be set aside to improve local open spaces.

The new homes will consist of a mix of two to five bedroom houses and bungalows.

Five of the overall 27 homes will be designated as affordable housing for local residents.

John Blue, Genesis Homes’ sales and land Director, said: "There is a wonderful community in the beautiful village of Burgh by Sands, and Genesis Homes is delighted to be able to provide support in addition to creating new housing, which is in high demand locally.

"Supporting local communities is something the company is extremely passionate about, and we are pleased to be able to provide assistance to education and recreation to improve village life for local residents."

Named Edward’s View in honour of King Edward I, who died in the village in 1307, the development follows the success of Genesis’ neighbouring 24-home development, The Orchards.

The site of Edward’s View is conveniently located close to Burgh by Sands Primary School and an existing children’s play area at King Edwards’ Fauld.

Included in the development plans are a Sustainable Drainage System pond and a pumping station.

Mr Blue added: "Edward’s View is an exciting development for Genesis Homes and we’re pleased to be able to create high specification new homes which will enhance a village which is steeped in history due to its close proximity to Hadrian’s Wall."

He also expressed confidence towards the development, predicting it will be as popular as The Orchards among residents with work on Edward’s View due to start later this year.

This project marks the 12th housing development across Cumbria by Genesis Homes.
