WIRRAL Council has issued an update on the memorial benches along New Brighton promenade that were damaged during stormy weather.

Wirral was battered by high tides, strong winds, and flooding on April 9 which caused disruption and debris in various areas across the borough.

Council teams and contractors attended areas worst affected like New Brighton, West Kirby and Hoylake to clear up the areas and make it safe.

During the storms, memorial benches were uprooted along the promenade in New Brighton by Vale Park.

Wirral Council has since issued families with an update on the current works being done to restore the benches back to normal.

A spokesperson for Wirral Council told the Globe: “The memorial benches, as well as being a valuable addition to the promenade, are also extremely important to the families and friends of those to whom they are dedicated.

“During the recent high tide and storm a number of them were moved out of place by the waves moving across the promenade, with some benches also being damaged.

“Work is underway by council staff to repair the benches on this section of promenade and place them back in their original locations and this will be completed as soon as possible.”
