It's the street food sensation which now has its own space in the heart of Southampton's cultural quarter.

Mama's Kitchen, the beloved truck food lovers flocked during its regular lockdown outings, has opened a site in Guildhall Square.

As well as continuing its regular appearances at festivals and events across Hampshire, the family business is now serving up delicious dishes to Thai food fans and customers of popular bar Grumpy Monkey.

Dishes including favourites like the spicy Pad Kra Pao, Dim Sum and Beef Penang Curry are served up street food style on a weekly rotating menu.

Mama's Kitchen co-owner Nella Pang told the Daily Echo: "We only opened on Friday, but it's so far so good.

"It's the same chefs, my mum and aunt, and we make all our own ingredients including the sauces which everyone raves about.

"This is a good partnership with Grumpy Monkey and we enjoyed providing the food for their bottomless brunch at the weekend.

"Things are tough in hospitality at the moment and this is our way of diversifying and working together with another business.

"We came to people's homes when they weren't able to go out during lockdown and now we hope they'll come to us to enjoy the same food they liked from the truck.

"We're rotating the dishes just to keep it fresh for our customers. We wanted to keep the menu limited, so we can continue to serve up really great food without a long wait. It's a very casual experience we hope people will enjoy."

Specialising in traditional Thai and Chinese cuisine, the Mama's Kitchen menu also includes Satay, Spring Rolls, and Pad Thai.

Mama's Kitchen will be serving food in its new city centre location on Thursday evenings, and Fridays and Saturdays between 12 midday and 10.30pm in the space between Grumpy Monkey and Mettricks Guildhall.

The Mama's Kitchen food truck continues it's fortnightly visits to Southampton Science Park in Chilworth and will pop up at dozens of festivals and events throughout Hampshire and Dorset this summer.
