IN this edition of nostalgia, we are looking back at some of the past competitions that have taken place in Cumbria.

From darts to dancing, and football to tennis. The pictures in this collection give into some of the spots competitions those in Cumbria got involved in. One picture shows a ballroom dancing competition in Carlisle's Market Hall in 1969, and another shows competitors in the Disco Dancing competition at Border TV in 1980.

Another picture shows competitors in the Cumbrian Junior Lawn Tennis competition in 1975 and the scenes behind making the draw before the Maryport and District Individual Dart Championship competition in 1969.

Some other sporting pictures show the Kirklinton YFC team in the rural dancing competition at the Northern district field day held at Linstock Castle in June 1988, and another shows the penalty competition at Kirklinton church fete held in the Rectory garden in June 1973

The final sporting picture shows finalists in the Cumbria (Cumberland) Federation of WIs darts competition.

However, not all of the competitions in Cumbria are purely sports based, one photo shows the gurning competition at the ABC Minors, Carlisle, in 1968

Some other competitions that take place annually in Cumbria are the Lakeland Trails Marathon which is a trail running event that is held every year. Taste Cumbria Food Festival involves cooking competitions which are apart of the annual food festival.

Other unique competition include the Original Marmalade Awards held in Dalemain, Cumbria, with participants from all over the world entering their homemade marmalade.
