A Carlisle-based footballer has been called up for an England under-15 training camp.

Josie Wright from Carlisle was called up to the U15 camp which took place at Loughborough University in March, with the rising local star being handed her debut in a Three Lions shirt in an internal training game.

Josie began her football journey at the age of nine after joining Northbank FC U10 Girls and was selected for the Cumberland FA's Advanced Coaching Centre in her first season.

Now at U15 level has signed for Blackburn Rovers who play in the North West JPL League and is following in the footsteps of Cumbrian Lioness Georgia Stanway who was also recognised by the Cumberland FA at U10 level and represented the Rovers.

"I'm honoured to be selected for England," Josie said to the Cumberland FA

"I never ever expected it so when Rovers told me that I was being released from club duties to join the England squad I was amazed and so excited.

"I love football and I can’t wait to put the shirt on and play with some of the best players in the country."
