A frosty run and a dinner made from potatoes give this legal professional the energy to keep up with her fast-paced job....

What does your job involve?

I am a Partner in the Employment Team, which means every day is different. I’m either helping businesses with difficult employee issues, appearing in the Employment Tribunal or delivering training on either best practice or the latest changes in employment law. It is fast paced, as I’m often having to react very quickly to a situation that has arisen unexpectedly. My aim is always to find the best solution for a client.

I drive a….

Hard bargain, as I always like to achieve the best results for my clients.

Who would you invite to your dream meal? (Six people, alive or dead)

Nan Shepherd (see below for a book recommendation), Sir David Attenborough, Malala Yousafzai, Alex Honnold, Noel Fielding, Aldo Kane and Rasmus Munk (provided he did the cooking). I definitely need a chef in the mix as I would not be able to enjoy the experience, if I was required to prepare a meal for six.

My favourite TV programme is?

Ben Fogle’s New Lives in the Wild. It a source of inspiration as to how to live differently, usually in some pretty remote places.

Most memorable meal or favourite food?

Potatoes. The only way I won’t eat them is raw; otherwise feed me a humble spud for every meal and I’ll be very happy!

My idea of a great weekend involves…

A Scottish island and walking on a beach that I have all to myself.

Biggest inspiration.

My parents who taught me to work hard and who always supported and encouraged me.

Best advice you’ve ever been given

Treat others as you would like to be treated. Wise words from my dear Mum that have served me well so far.

Favourite pub, café or restaurant in Cumbria

Depending on my mood, I’d either go for The Round which does the most amazing burgers and crinkle cut fries or The Fellpack, with its Fellpots which have never failed to be anything other than delicious and I really like the relaxed vibe. Both places are in Keswick.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know

My old boss used to call me Jo Jo Potatoes due to my love of that particular vegetable (see above).

Early riser or enjoy a lie-in?

Both. Nothing beats an early morning run, particularly in winter, when its frosty and it’s possible to catch the moment before the sun fully rises when colours start to leach back into the world. Equally, nothing beats a lie in with a good book and a cuppa.

The book or film which has had a lasting impact on you?

The Living Mountain by Nan Shepherd. Despite this book being written towards the end of the Second World War, it still resonates today. Ostensibly a book about the Cairngorms, it is a must read for any mountain lover and highlights the benefits of travelling slowly and looking closely. It’s is a beautifully observed journey through an amazing landscape.
