AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a dog was allegedly found 'starved to death wrapped in a dressing gown'.

The RSPCA is investigating after a woman found the dog near Ormsgill allotments in Barrow at around 7pm on Friday May 19.

According to a post on social media, the animal was found with overgrown claws wrapped in a navy blue dressing.

The dog was believed to be a young, black mix-breed female and was described as 'skin and bones'.

The woman who found the dog took her home and put an appeal out on the local 'lost and found' page. The dog was then driven to Wildside Vets and the incident was reported to the RSPCA.

An RSPCA spokesman said: "The RSPCA is aware and is investigating. If anyone has any first-hand information about this incident they should contact the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 999."
