Dogs and their owners are invited to celebrate National Walking Month with a meet-up and scenic stroll through Wetheral Woods and along the river.

The group walk, which is being led by Paragon Veterinary Group, will take place on Thursday, May 25 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

This latest walk follows the success of Paragon’s group meet-up in Dalston last August.

Paragon vet Graham Lewis said: “Now the weather is better, it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to hold another group dog walk for local people to enjoy. We would love locals and their dogs to join us to celebrate our four-legged friends during National Walking Month.

“My two dogs, Clova and Skye, and I love this walk. It’s an easy ramble with woodland, wildlife, and a beautiful stretch of the River Eden. It's really scenic and takes less than an hour. There will be plenty of time to enjoy a chat, too," he said.

The first 20 people to register to attend will receive dog goody bags to take away, which include Paragon’s free dog walk guide.

Graham, who is based at Paragon’s Dalston surgery, had the idea to produce the booklet which is called ‘Come on, let’s go! The Cumbria Dog Walking Guide’

Graham said: “The guide features six of the best dog walks in Cumbria, specially selected with dogs in mind. Each walk includes a step-by-step guide to the route.

“It showcases two of my own favourite walks (including the Wetheral walk that we’re doing this week) as well as four by the award-winning outdoor writer, and dog lover, Vivienne Crow.”

The guide also includes important information on keeping your dogs safe on walks, avoiding hazards like heatstroke and blue green algae, and tips on terrain, parking and livestock.
