A self-taught Cumbrian artist has had her candle-making business noticed by some of Hollywood’s elites - despite only launching it during the pandemic.

Penrith-based Karoline Pakula has recently gained international recognition for her unique candle designs, that she says have been bought by Hollywood stars including Jack Nicholson and Vanessa Hudgens.

I wanted to create something that was not only functional but also a bit different, fun and of course toxic free.

“I love experimenting with new designs and shapes. Currently I’m working on something completely different to my previous designs.

“I never thought my candle-making hobby would lead me anywhere.

In Cumbria: “It’s an incredible feeling to see people appreciating the work that goes into each candle. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my passion with others and to bring a little light into people’s life.”

Karo’ candles are available for purchase on Etsy with designs ranging from abstract to realistic sculptures.

Each candle is crafted from scratch, with Karoline sculpting the initial design in clay, creating a silicone mould, and hand- pouring the wax to create a one-of-a-kind piece that is both a work of art and a functional candle.

In addition to her candle-making business Karoline also loves photography and when she’s not in the studio, she can be often found behind the lens capturing the landscapes and the local way of life.
