A HUGELY popular Carlisle cafe has announced that it will be moving into a bigger premises after four years.

I Love Cafe will be moving to the former Coffee Genius unit on St Cuthbert's Lane in time for summer.

Charlotte Birkett took over I Love Cafe before lockdown, alongside her mother Kerry, who brought her love of baking to the cafe's forefront.

"I Love Cafe will still be open as normal at the moment but this was a great idea for us to get a bigger kitchen.

"Anyone that's been in before knows how small it was," Charlotte said.

Charlotte said the cafe has helped her overcome issues in dealing with anxiety after being out of work.

"It soon became my safe space where I regained my confidence. Not only has it helped me, but it has helped many others along the way and will continue to do so," she said.

Charlotte and her partner Adam Parker, who has worked as a restaurant manager across Cumbria, will run the day-to-day of the business but Kerry and auntie Hannah Blacklock's homemade cakes will still be very much capturing attention.

The duo have also been attending professional cookery courses, with the hopes of bringing new ideas along the way.

"We look to offer breakfast, brunch and lunch - but we're going for a full-refurb, try to make it a bit of an Instagrammable place.

"We have no specific date, but we aim to be open in time for summer," Adam said.

Charlotte said not to worry however - the cakes aren't going anywhere.

The business prides itself on no two days being the same in terms of its creative output when it comes to sweet and delectable recipes - of which the choice is ever-changing and endless.

With work beginning on the former Coffee Genius this week, you can still visit the original I Love Cafe in Kinmont Arcade in the meantime.
