A SENIOR solicitor has been promoted to an associate at progressive law firm Wragg Mark-Bell

Born in Turkey, Isil Cowan lived in London for 20 years and worked in various law firms before relocating to Cumbria five years ago with her husband, whose family originate from the county.

She joined Carlisle-based law firm, Wragg Mark-Bell, in January 2018 and specialises in commercial and residential conveyancing.

"I love the non-contentious aspects of conveyancing.

"Everyone is working towards a common goal, and it is my job to make the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible.

“I feel very proud to have had my skills and qualifications recognised by our directors, the past 3 years have not been easy due to Covid, so to be trusted and promoted is a real accolade," Isil said.

Nick Kennon, managing partner, said: "Isil is an exceptional asset to Wragg Mark-Bell.

"She has demonstrated drive and commitment to her clients and colleagues, and we look forward to welcoming her as an associate," he said.

Isil explained how the law firm have a very progressive attitude towards staff on all levels.

“We recognise that supporting staff in their career advancement and professional development is beneficial to everyone. Many of our administrators have advanced to become paralegals and Paralegals are progressing to become solicitors and legal executives.

“We have a high retention rate of staff who join as trainees and stay on to progress in their role. Being able to earn a good wage and simultaneously train has many advantages, plus all the training is paid for by the organisation," she said.

Isil begins her Associate role on April 1.
