Georgina Miller, sales and marketing manager at The Crown, has worked at the privately-owned hotel for several years and said it has been 'really exciting'.

"We've been expanding the hotel and refurbishing The Old Crown, bringing it back where it needs to be, but we've also been working on a huge energy project, where we're trying to look at a decarbonisation programme.

"We've opened more bedrooms, all of our rooms have now been refurbished, and a lot of our public area's been refurbished," Georgina said.

"We've redone all of our menus ready to relaunch and we've been working on our wedding packages."

She said local Carlisle-based interior designers were hired for the refurbishment.

"We've gone very neutral, using nice pastel colour palettes to blend in with our gardens," Georgina said.

"It's all state-of-the-art equipment so I'd like to think we've got a unique offering for the area," she added.

The hotel's new green initiative has seen the installation of a pool cover and a CHP machine, which converts gas into electric energy and helps power the swimming pool.

Smart energy sensors have been installed around the hotel, solar energy panels are being installed, and an extra electric car charge point will be added.

Once the solar panels are installed, the hotel will hopefully have reduced its carbon footprint to the equivalent of 38 households per year.

“We had a great year last year, and this year’s hopefully going to be a record year for us at The Crown.

"The business is booming after the issues with Covid, which is good to see.

“We went into Covid and came out so much stronger because we did so much development during that difficult period, so turned a negative into a positive," Georgina said.
