THE doors of a new supermarket have officially opened today (Thursday, March 30).

Lidl has opened a new store on Beezon Road in Kendal.

The store will create around 40 jobs for the local community with new starters being among the highest paid in the supermarket sector following the discounter’s wage increases this month.

Features include an in-store bakery, customer toilet with baby changing facilities, as well as ample parking for cars and bicycles.

The opening hours for the store will be between 8am–10pm on Monday to Saturday, and 10am–4pm on Sundays.

Lidl GB recently won over a dozen Good Housekeeping Institute taste tests, including items from its Easter range, such as the Deluxe Luxury Apple Hot Cross Buns, Deluxe West Country Lamb Leg and Deluxe Triple Chocolate Easter Egg.

The new store comes to Kendal as Lidl GB was named the fastest growing supermarket in the UK, with sales rising by an annual rate of 25.8 per cent, pushing its market share to 7.4 per cent.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property David Murphy said: “We have received overwhelming support from the local community and are thrilled to have opened the doors to our new store.

“As people continue to tighten their belts, we’re in the best possible position to help shoppers make sizable savings. Whether it is fresh produce, staple shopping list items or a must-have product from the Middle of Lidl, customers can be sure that they will be getting the best value when they shop at Lidl.”

Independent analysis conducted by The Grocer of shopping lists across the nation, from fresh produce to branded items, found Lidl GB was £24.82 cheaper than the most expensive supermarket, while coming out cheapest for 21 items overall, and exclusively for two.
