This week Whitehaven saw success for the first time in a number of games as they faced off against York City Knights.

The club is delighted with the win after what was a very difficult game the week prior.

Whitehaven secured a victory of 14-12 over the Yorkshire side on Sunday.

Head coach, Jonty Gorley, said: "The reaction I asked for last week, I definitely got that.

"I thought we got back to where we need to be regarding how we are and how we perform.

"I just thought we were good with the ball early on where we haven't been recently, for 25 minutes we had 100% of the ball which is far more than we've been doing and it's got us the game, at that point, we were 10-0 up.

"We got in the lead by just being in the game and having a fair share of the ball and defending on the back of it because we were fresh because we hadn't made any errors and hadn't given them any invites.

"For maybe a ten-minute spell before halftime, we had a couple of noncomplete sets and a restart and a penalty and a couple of errors and for the last five minutes we were chasing our tails and they got back-to-back tries I think it was the result of the previous five minutes where we hadn't completed and we were putting ourselves under pressure.

"At half-time, we just talked about keeping on doing the things that got us in that 10-point lead by doing the basics right and defending correctly.

"We defended pretty well in the second half especially later on when we had a bit of pressure with not completing and giving a penalty away, we defended our line for a couple of sets they kept up turning up for each other and defended the line well.

"I got an absolutely fantastic result."

Whitehaven RL will go on to play Batley Bulldogs at The LEL Arena on Sunday, March 26, at 3 pm.
