A large-scale Jobs and Careers Fair aimed at inspiring Cumbria has been successful as more than 800 people attended the event.

The fair brought together more than 60 of Cumbria’s most innovative and inspiring potential employers from a range of industries.

Jobseekers of all ages and career stages came to explore the diverse range of opportunities available across the county.

Hosted by a partnership of local organisations, including Kendal College, Cumbria Tourism, Inspira, Job Centre Plus, and LOCALiQ, the event featured current job vacancies and opportunities to develop longer-term careers in key industries from tourism and hospitality, to professional services, healthcare and public sector roles.

Support organisations, universities and Further Education institutions from across the North of England were also on hand to offer advice and inspiration.

The fair was a chance for employers to connect with people and fill the void of available jobs in the county. Applications were being handed in on the day and many businesses went away with lists of potential employees. Students were inspired by a number of career routes across all sectors, with many attending workshops on careers-related subjects.

Head of Partnerships & Projects at Cumbria Tourism Rachel Tyson said: “This was a fantastic showcase of careers and it was great to witness the enthusiasm and interest of everyone exploring the job opportunities on offer. We were proud to be one of the supporters of this event, helping to address businesses’ ongoing recruitment challenges."

General Manager of Treetop Trek Windermere Tom Patrick-Kenny added: “We have a range of roles which are particularly well-suited to school and college leavers. Not only are seasonal jobs a great way to earn money over holidays like Easter and the summer break, but it means students can gain industry experience and hands-on skills with plenty of opportunities for training and development. Being part of this event was helped us make some useful new contacts, who are interested in the opportunities we have available.”

Ian Wilkinson, HR Manager at Windermere Lake Cruises, said: "Being the most visited attraction in the county, we were thrilled to participate in the Jobs and Careers Fair. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet directly with job seekers of all ages and discuss the diverse range of opportunities available at Windermere Lake Cruises.”
