SOME of the world’s finest dairy genetics with be on show to thousands of UK farmers and a global audience online at Carlisle’s Borderway UK Dairy Expo 2023 today (Fri) and tomorrow.

Record numbers of entries make this year’s Borderway UK Dairy Expo the biggest and most important showcase for British dairying in the 11-year lifetime of this event.

In the region of 7,000 farmers, traders and industry experts will gather to celebrate all things dairy at Harrison & Hetherington’s Borderway Exhibition Centre.

An international panel of leading judges will pick the champions in a phenomenal show of over 300 dairy cattle representing some of the world’s top genetics from seven different breeds. And once again this keynote event in Carlisle will be livestreamed to an international audience which will include viewers in Europe, the US and Canada, and as far away as Australia and New Zealand.

A major platform for networking, the event also holds a trade exhibition where around 120 organisations share the latest industry trends, research and developments, as well as acting as a hub for advice, information, and knowledge exchange.

Harrison & Hetherington have specifically tailored classes for young people including the Showmanship Championship and the Rising Star Award, launched last year. New this year is a Young Vlogger Competition which encourages young people to promote the industry and spread the farming message.

This year’s Borderway Dairy Expo will also celebrate one of the giants of the UK dairy industry with the presentation of The John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award by the family of the late John Dennison of Cumbria, who was one of the industry’s most respected breeders.

H&H's Senior Pedigree Dairy Auctioneer and Expo Event Organiser, Glyn Lucas, said: “The event has grown and flourished since its inception back in 2012 and it now has a world-renowned reputation for the high calibre stock it attracts. It’s also globally recognised as a shop window for the best of breeding, technology and innovation, and as a platform for sharing ideas and inspiration in the global dairy industry.

“The record level of entries and interest in this event demonstrate that the future of the dairy industry is bright, and the opportunities are huge, and we look forward to welcoming the dairying world.”
