Furness College is urging employers from across the area to join its Careers Fair next month.

The college is hosting the event to give students and school pupils first-hand advice about jobs after their academic courses.

On Tuesday February 14 the Careers Fair will be held at the Channelside Campus and will feature up to 50 major businesses, training providers and universities.

Sectors attending will include healthcare, childcare and education, nuclear, engineering, construction, tourism, retail, business and hospitality as well as training providers.

Confirmed employers include Orsted, James Fisher and Sons, Athena, Kimberly-Clark, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay and Risedale Homes.

There will also be staff from Furness College’s Channelside and Rating Lane campuses on hand to talk about further education options, apprenticeships, sixth form and degree courses.

The event will be open to school pupils in Year 10 and Year 11 and their parents from 4pm to 5.30pm.

Members of the public who want to find out more about the adult education offered are also welcome at this time.

Organiser Sarah Carter, who is Student Services Manager and Careers Leader at Furness College, said the college had chosen Valentine’s Day with a theme of #embraceyourcareer.

Sarah said: “Our advice to young people starting out on their career path is to choose something that they love and are passionate about.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and pupils in Year 10 and 11 to come along and speak to businesses about job opportunities and routes into employment.

“There will be lots of organisations – ranging from universities to global companies – who are all interested to speak to young people as they seek to embark on the next stage of their education and exciting careers with good prospects.”

“We will also have college staff on hand to answer questions about courses and pathways into dream careers.”

If you are an employer interested in being involved in the event, please email info@furness.ac.uk, call 01229 844817 or visit www.furness.ac.uk/careers-fair/ for more details.
