A NEW grocery chain store is coming to central Carlisle.

Heron Foods, the discount retail chain, has announced that Lowther Street in Carlisle is the location for its new store.

Heron Foods focuses on chilled and frozen foods and discount grocery products.

Previously, the nearest Heron Foods stores have been in west Cumbria, in Whitehaven, Maryport and Egremont.

A spokesperson from Heron Foods said: “We’re thrilled to be opening on Thursday February 9.

"Heron Foods stores add to the local community so we’re delighted to be opening a store in Carlisle, and we look forward to welcoming customers through the doors.

“I’d also like to personally thank colleagues for their efforts in getting the new store ready as well as our neighbours who have already shown support.”

The new store will open at 8am on Thursday, February 9, and the store has a range of opening offers. For example, on opening day, customers who spend £10 or more will be offered a goodie bag worth over £5 to the first 200 customers.

One lucky customer will also find a golden envelope in their goodie bag which will contain £100 worth of Heron Foods vouchers.

The new store is currently recruiting for jobs in both full- and part-time roles.

Visitors to the company’s Facebook page will have the opportunity to choose their favourite charity who will be given £250 as a thank you from Heron Foods to mark the opening of the new store.
