Country sports enthusiasts from far and wide are expected at a Cockermouth auction house sale next week.
Mitchells has developed a national reputation for their biannual sporting sales which now stretch over three days in the spring and autumn.
Their next Country Sporting Sale will feature a wide range of antique and modern sporting goods for hunting, shooting and fishing including taxidermy, country attire, sporting pictures, books and ceramics.
The most valuable lot in the sale is expected to be a set of three reproduction ‘1912 Perfect Limited Edition Hardy Reels’, as new condition in a brown leather presentation case which should make £1,500-£2,000.
Other valuable lots include a rare German Lilipet KAL 4.25mm Modell 1927 Pistol, which could make £800 - £1,200. A Swiss-made Morini Competition Air Pistol for target shooting has an estimate of £300 to £500 and an Iver Johnson Air Pistol circa 1875 to late 1880's should sell for £100 - £150.
A ‘Wilk’ ink and watercolour cartoon illustration by the renowned Keswick artist John William (Bill) Wilkinson (1906-1994) featuring a Rhino with hounds and titled "Wha's Terrier DidTa Put In?”should make £200 - £300.
For hunting enthusiasts, a Kohler Banded Hunting Horn dated 1851-1862 and stamped ‘Kohler & Son Makers Victoria Street Westminster (From Covent Garden)’ has an estimate of £100 - £200.
The sale takes place October 12 to 14.
