A RESTAURANT is celebrating a successful first year that went ‘beyond expectations’.

Dodona House, based on Duke Street, has been a huge hit with customers from Barrow and the surrounding area, offering up traditional Greek, Mediterranean, and Balkan cuisine – as well as authentic Italian pizzas.

The name Dodona is a nod to the ancient sanctuary of the chief Greek god Zeus.

“It has all been good stuff, it has been going really well,” said Dodona owner Horizont Pllana. “We just can’t thank people enough, everyone from Barrow, Dalton, Walney and surrounding areas - even up to Bardsea - they’ve just been amazing really.

“It looks like we are heading in the right direction.”

Horizont said the family-run business had seen success in the first year that was “definitely beyond our expectations”.

“I strongly believe there is nobody in the whole of Cumbria who does the same pizzas as our,” said Horizont. “It is proper dough, it’s perfect pizza really.”

He said that the food was even a hit with those who are watching their waistline.

He said: “We don’t do any processed foods whatsoever, we keep having people come that are dieting as well which is surprising - straight from the gym over to here!

“It is all fresh, all cooked over the charcoal.”

The restaurant has been nominated for two awards over the last two weeks.

Dodona House was awarded for being recommended on Restaurant Guru.

They have also been named as a nominee in the England Business Award.

They are asking that customers get behind them and vote for them for the Business of the Year 2022 award.

Businesses with the most votes at the end of October will move on to a grand final.

Horizont said: “I think that this is great for the town and us, and we can’t thank our customers enough.

“Without them we wouldn’t be here where we are.”
