AFTER a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Kitchen Rivals’ return to Cumbria has been confirmed.

The charity-focused culinary clash between Baines Wilson LLP and Barclays will return to the Lake District Hotels' Inn on the Lake Glenridding, where it had been held after its pre-pandemic inception.

The teams from the firms will serve a three-course meal to 90 invited guests - who will pay what they feel the meal was worth.

The team that raises the most money will be crowned champions.

The proceeds from this year’s Kitchen Rivals will be shared by several local charities, including Cumbria Community Foundation, Carlisle Eden Mind and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s children’s hospice.

Dani Hope, a director at Baines Wilson jumped at the chance to support local causes.

She said: “The chance to help three local charities was too good to miss.

“We have our own charity of the year – this year it’s Jigsaw – and Kitchen Rivals provides a great opportunity to support them.”

The idea for the event which has raised £90,000 for Cumbrian charities since 2016 came from employment partner at Baines Wilson Joanne Holborn.

She said: “One of the reasons Kitchen Rivals is such an entertaining evening is that people get to see us in a different setting that is nothing like the office environment.”

Baines Wilson has claimed victory over rivals Barclays in their last two encounters in 2018 and 2019 with relationship director Abi Bailey has been chosen to lead the bankers in their latest attempt at victory.

She said: “It’s an excellent event that raises a considerable amount of money for local charities, which is why Barclays is pleased to be involved.”
