SEVEN young Siemens Energy apprentices counted benches on Hoad Hill despite the hot weather.

The apprentices counted 37 benches across the hill. This was to map and identify the benches so that Ulverston Town Council knows how many memorial benches need restoring.

As part of the Siemens Energy development programme, the apprentices engage with the local community through volunteering and helping with projects.

The Siemens Energy site at Ulverston produces subsea and measurement technology. At the 11,000-square-foot factory, it designs, manufactures, tests and installs subsea connector and measurement technology for the oil and gas industry.

Emma Bird, the learning and development advisor at Siemens Energy said: "We contacted Ulverston Town Council and asked if we could help with any local projects. They have had counting benches on their to-do list for some time.

"We had a group of seven apprentices who spent the morning on Hoad Hill collating all the information and taking pictures of all the benches they could find.

"This was fed back to another apprentice who put together the mapping for the Town Council.

"The Town Council will now use this information to see what renovation work needs to be carried out on the benches to improve the area."
