A nursery has been rated as ‘good’ in all areas following its latest inspection by Ofsted.

Tamalder Childcare on Meadow Road in Whitehaven has been praised by inspectors, who observed “positive interactions” and children who “thoroughly enjoy” their time at nursery.

The inspection report says: “The well-qualified staff provide an ambitious curriculum that, largely, takes account of what children know and enjoy.

“Children are happy, settled and behave well. They thoroughly enjoy their time at this inclusive nursery. Children demonstrate that they feel safe and secure.

“Parents say that staff go above and beyond to support their children.”

At a previous inspection in February, the centre’s leadership and management had been rated as ‘inadequate’ after Ofsted was not informed of a change in the nominated person and directors of the company. All other areas were rated as good.

Dianne Henderson, manager of Tamalder Childcare, said it was an administrative issue that had since been rectified. The nursery has now been rated as ‘good’ across all areas again, following its latest inspection, which was carried out in June.

Ms Henderson said: “We were reinspected and everything was sorted. The staff were brilliant, doing everything that we always do. We had an amazing day with the judgement reflecting the work and high quality of childcare we provide as a whole team.”

In the report, inspector Charlotte Bowe said: “Leaders and managers have significantly improved their practice since the last inspection. They have a good understanding of their individual roles and responsibilities. The provider holds regular meetings with the manager, to maintain successful oversight of the nursery.”

The inspector praised leaders and staff, who “prepare children well” for their next stages of learning, including school.

The report also noted that staff have been placing “a sharp emphasis” on supporting children's communication and language skills since the pandemic.

It says: “Staff use every available opportunity to engage babies in songs and rhymes that they know and enjoy. Staff working with older children quickly apply their knowledge from relevant training.”

Tamalder Childcare was registered in 2004 and the nursery employs 12 members of childcare staff. The centre provides funded early education for two-, three- and four-year-old children.
