A construction company has appointed a new chief executive and vice chairman.

The Carlisle-based Story Contracting has, while under the leadership of Jason Butterworth, grown from a £70million business to  £200million one.

Jason will become the new vice chairman and will be replaced in April next year b Andy Joy, the current managing director.

According to Story Contracting, its growth looked set to continue due to opportunities for its rail divisions, and an increase in work with existing and new clients in its construction and plant businesses.

Fred Story, owner and chairman, said: “This is a really exciting time for the business, and as we celebrate our 35th anniversary, I am delighted that Jason has agreed to take on this role to support the board with investment decisions, the diversification strategy, our major frameworks, and helping me to ensure we achieve sustainable growth across the regions.”

On the anniversary, Fred said: “Over the 35 years we have built two fantastic companies through the hard work, determination and passion of our people.

“We’re seen as a trusted partner to clients, customers and landowners, and this has been key in helping us create successful and sustainable businesses for many years to come.

“From just a handful of people in the early days, to almost 1,300 staff employed at Homes and Contracting today, I am incredibly proud of the businesses we have created and everyone who has played a part in this.”
