A POPULAR pantry in Kendal has been forced to close after only ten months of trading.

Harry’s In the Town, located at 34A Stramongate, closed its doors for the final time on July 22 due to rising costs.

The pantry was forced to shut down due to rising costs associated with running the business however the organisation will continue to run Harry’s Pantry which is located on Shap Road.

Owner Sam Berry said: “We are sorry to be closing the shop but it’s just with the rising costs of everything, running out of things, and things being tricky with suppliers and electricity.

“It’s a shame because the shop was coming along very well. But we don’t have the money or time to keep it going.

“Unfortunately, it’s only been open for ten months.

“Our Shap Road pantry is still open and it’s been really busy there. We’ve had a lot of people come from the Stramongate shop to our one here.

“We’re sad it has closed but we would never say never to having another shop at some point in the future if we’re ever in a position to do that again.

“When we opened it, everything was happening all at once, and it wasn’t the easiest time to open.

“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from customers and the foot fall was coming along. A lot of people liked it that they didn’t have to travel so far to reach us.

“We understand that people were upset but it is a tricky market and hopefully things will improve.

“Sadly, we were unable to keep the staff on who worked in the shop.

“We will keep focusing on Shap Road, our vans and our outside catering.

“I would like to thank the people for all their support.”
