A SHOP is closing after nearly 100 years in business.

Armstrong Carpets in Haltwhistle announced it will close on Saturday, July 2.

The shop is run by brothers William Armstrong, 80, and David Armstrong, 75; the former said he started working under his father when he was 15.

65 years on, they both decided it was time to retire.

As a send off, they are inviting anyone who has been a customer or knows the business to join them in celebratory and commemoratory drinks on Saturday.

William said: “We started in 1926.

“My father started it with his two sisters.

“We were hoping to go on a couple more years to make it 100 years but we decided to retire this year for health reasons.”

He said the shop was and is very popular and they will definitely be missed.

They have both been working there since they were in school.

William added: “There is a lot of history with this over the years.”

As another thank you to their customers, they are having a retirement sale with over 150 rugs all to clear at half price or less.
