AN APPLICATION to demolish the side extension of a fish-and-chip shop and replace it with a front extension has been submitted.
Cadent Gas is seeking permission for the work as the current timber extension at Crakeside Fish and Chips, Greenodd, near Ulverston, sits above a high-pressure gas main.
A planning supporting statement submitted by Dalcour Maclaren as part of the application says the proposed development is necessary 'for the purpose of continuing to provide a safe and secure supply of gas to Cadent’s distribution system'.
The statement says: "As a statutory undertaker, Cadent are duty bound to undertake maintenance of their gas infrastructure, where required, to ensure that it is operated in a manner whereby the health and safety of the public is not put at risk.
"It is proposed that an extension to the front of the shop will be constructed in its place, and that Cadent are obliged to do this in a previous agreement with the shop owner/ landowner."
The statement says it is understood permission for the existing extension expired in 2014 and 'it must now be removed in line with both the original temporary planning requirements and Cadent's obligations under the Gas Act 1986'.
