A FORMER restaurant in Broughton is the subject of a change-of-use application to turn it into a residential property.

Beswicks Restaurant on The Square closed in 2017 due to the owner's ill health and was subsequently lived in as a home until December 2021.

The property used to be fully residential before the 1970s when it was changed into a cafe and then later to Beswicks Restaurant.

It has been up for sale and vacant since December 2021 and the application to change the use again is due to a prospective buyer wishing to use the cafe as a residence and not a business.

The planning statement to South Lakeland Distric Council says: "The change of use will not cause loss of services to the area.

"The change of use will not cause any structural changes, no changes to parking, drainage or sewers, this is literally just to enable the property to be lived in as a normal residence with no business use."
