THE BEERGARDEN of a Grade II listed Barrow pub could be set for a revamp after an application was submitted to restore and modernise three historic outbuildings.

Crofters, on Holbeck Park Avenue in Roose is seeking full planning permission and listed building consent for a new frameless glass canopy to the Piggeries, three dilapidated structures bordering the public outside area.

The Piggeries will also be subject to "fabric adaptations and repairs, to facilitate and encourage outdoor eating and drinking in the wake of the recent pandemic", according to the design statement.

The pub and Piggeries are part of a former farm complex, dating back to 1832 according to the date on the foundation stones.

A summary of the proposals in the applications Heritage Statement says:
"The proposal is to redevelop the Piggeries by carrying out sensitive repairs to roofs, removal of ivy, repointing, reslating, repairs, and replacement roof timbers, along with insertion of grilles to openings and a glazed link between the central and eastern Piggery."

"This has been designed as a glazed structure so as to provide a contemporary approach that does not compete with the heritage assets, but at the same time does not impact upon the setting due to its transparency."
