DREAM Placement has recenty annouced that it is opening applications in September for their 2023 season.

Dream Placement is a programme unique to Cumbria, which is project managed by the Centre for Leadership Performance (CforLP). It aims to bring together bright, motivated young students aged 16-18 and partner them with some of the most successful businesses in the county.

The Dream Placement scheme has been co-created by CforLP with businesses across Cumbria who want to connect with their future workforce and showcase opportunities for prospects in the industry. The scheme gives all young people who apply development opportunities and a chance to work with empoyers at each stage of this 6 month programme. Successful candidates of the different application stages will embark on a week long placement with the company.

It allows young people to explore the industries they feel passionate about and gives them a vision of what they can aspire to across the county. It helps them make informed choices about their future careers.

Over the course of the scheme, than 2,000 young people have been involved with the development programme which is funded by businesses committed to investing in the county’s young people.

The Dream Placement thrives when more businesses join the scheme, as this means more opportunities for young people.

The scheme are now recruiting businesses for Dream Placement 2023! Dream Placement 2022 seen a record number of 16-18 year olds become involved and organisers are hoping to beat last years record!

Dream placement receives praise each and every year, from past candidates and businesses. Mark Ritchie, Waste & Technology Director with Jacobs said: “Dream Placement is part of our longer term vision to ensure we encourage young people within Cumbria to join our business.” 

Thomas Shaw undertook the placement in 2017 and is now working in Nuclear Operations, he said: "It was an incredibly beneficial placement. It was an enabling factor that delivered my first job in the Nuclear Industry! I have had the privilege of hearing from many students in the last five years since my own dream placement; the tales, experience, and skills learnt from this very unique type of placement."
